Penn State Football: LaVar Arrington and Michael Mauti Headline Signing Day Event
Penn State fans will get a chance to hear from two Nittany Lion greats at Penn State's National Signing Day event Wednesday evening: former Penn State stars LaVar Arrington and Michael Mauti.
“The Signature Event,” will begin at 6 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center, and will feature Penn State head coach James Franklin discussing Penn State’s 2014 recruiting class. Franklin will also introduce his coaching staff.
Arrington played linebacker for the Nittany Lions from 1997-1999 and is possibly most famous for his signature play, the “LaVar Leap.”
Drafted by the Washington Redskins as the second overall pick of the 2000 NFL draft, rrington played there for five years, before playing a season with the New York Giants and then retiring in 2006. Arrington has been a vocal member of an ever growing number of Penn State football alumni and was recently on campus this past weekend as Penn State hosted several key recruits.
Arrington now hosts his own radio talk show in the Washington DC area after the conclusion of his NFL career.
Mauti will return to Penn State to speak following his rookie season in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings. Mauti played for the Nittany Lions from 2008-2012 and was a key leader of the Penn State football team during the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky scandal and NCAA sanctions.
Mauti was drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 draft by the Minnesota Vikings, where he joined fellow Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges, who was drafted in the fourth round.
Admission for The Signature Event is free for Penn State students and $5 for the general public.
