Penn State Football: Manny Bowen Out For Maryland Game, Apke To Miss First Half

by on November 21, 2017 3:15 PM

Penn State will continue to be without once starting linebacker Manny Bowen according to coach James Franklin. Bowen has missed each of the last two games due to a violation of team rules.

Franklin has not expanded on the nature of the violation, nor is he likely to in the future. Bowen picked up 16 tackles in total against Michigan State and Ohio State, his best two outings since recording eight tackles against Indiana earlier in the season.

Potentially good news for Penn State fans though as special teams standout Irv Charles, who missed last week’s game for an unspecified reason, will be a game-time decision this weekend against Maryland according to Franklin.

As for the rest of the missing in action, defensive tackles Ryan Buchholz and offensive tackle Ryan Bates both dressed last weekend but did not play.

"Hopefully we can get Buchholz back," Franklin said during his weekly media session on Tuesday.

Lastly, a late targeting ejection on safety Troy Apke will require that the senior sits out the first half of Saturday's game against Maryland. That rule is NCAA mandated and not a call made by the Penn State coaching staff.
