Penn State Football: McSorley Opens With 18/1 Heisman Odds

by on January 24, 2018 12:40 PM

Penn State football will enter a second straight season with at least one player in the Heisman mix, this year quarterback Trace McSorley among the front runners for the award according to recently released odds.

McSorley enters the field at 18/1 odds the seventh best out of the bunch. Stanford running back and 2017 finalist Bryce Love is the current favorite at 7/1 with Wisconsin back Jonathan Taylor just behind him at 8/1.

It stands to reason that McSorley will have a long way to go to truly put himself in the conversation, but given the Nittany Lions' returning offensive potential and somewhat favorable schedule, it isn't out of the question. McSorley started last season with 10/1 odds to make it to New York for the award but neither he nor teammate Saquon Barkley made the final cut.

Ohio State running back JK Dobbins is the only other Big Ten player ahead of McSorley, at 12/1 odds.

McSorley is 1,059 yards away from becoming Penn State's all-time leading passer. 2,631 yards would make McSorley the program's only career 10,000 yard passer. He has averaged over 3,500 yards each of the past two seasons.
