Penn State's 2022 recruiting class continues to get off to a strong start, adding its fifth member on Friday afternoon in offensive tackle Drew Shelton. The Downingtown native is rated the fourth best prospect in the state and a four-star prospect on the 247 Network.

Coming in on at the scales at 6-foot-5, 255 sounds, Shelton received offers from a host of schools including Big Ten programs Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Maryland and Rutgers.

Shelton is the second in-state prospect to verbally commit to the Nittany Lions' 2022 haul, joining quarterback Beau Pribula. The Nittany Lions round out the class so far with two tight ends in Jerry Cross, Holden Staes and receiver Kaden Saunders.

Big picture, Shelton is the second marquee prospect along the offensive front of join the Nittany Lions, the group headlined by 2021 commit Landon Tengwall.

Penn State's 2022 haul is ranked third in the nation and second best in the Big Ten, largely a product of how early it is in the cycle. Equally true, four of Penn State's five commits are rated at the four-star level.

The Nittany Lions are currently pulling in a modestly ranked 2021 class, slotting in at 32nd in the nation per the 247 Network. The class is fairly small by general standards, just 13 members so far, three of whom hail from in-state. Nittany Lion quarterback Sean Clifford's brother, Liam, is verbally committed to the 2021 class as an athlete.
