Penn State added a late edition to its 2012 recruiting class Thursday night, Lions247 reported.

Brennan Franklin, a 6-foot-2, 234-pound linebacker from Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial High School, commited to the Nittany Lions and will enroll in school Aug. 3.

Franklin held offers from smaller schools such as Robert Morris, Wofford and Eastern Kentucky, despite registering more than 450 tackles in his high school career, and he earned first-team all-state honors as a senior.

He is the 20th member of Penn State's 2012 recruiting class.

Penn State currently is recovering from the NCAA's announcement of a collection of sanctions that could cripple the program.

The sanctions come following the release of Penn State's independent Freeh investigation in to the Jerry Sandusky scandal, which implicated several university administrators as well as former head coach Joe Paterno.
