Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Add Two Commits As Signing Day Approaches

by on February 01, 2016 2:00 PM

Just days away from 2016 National Signing Day, Penn State got the momentum headed back in a positive direction, adding two late verbal commitments to the fold.

On Monday it was a former Temple commit making the switch, with three star receiver Dae’lun Darien flipping his commitment from Temple to Penn State.

The 6-foot-4, 195 pound Baltimore native decommitted from Temple earlier this morning to become the first wide receiver of James Franklin’s 2016 recruiting class. He makes for the third Penn State receiver coming in at over 6-foot-4 with Irivin Charles and Juwan Johnson both already holding that distinction.

Earlier this weekend the Nittany Lions also added some depth on the defensive front as three-star tackle Antonio Shelton verbally committed on Sunday. The Ohio nation picked Penn State over the follow Big Ten programs Illinois and Rutgers and non conference foes such as Cincinnati and Iowa State.

At 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds Shelton adds some initial size to the freshman haul that will look to help replace Austin Johnson and Anthony Zettel. Penn State is down to just Ellison Jordan after losing Christian Colon, Michael Dwumfour and Karamo Dioubate.

Penn State's recruiting haul on Wednesday is expected to be 15 players and is currently ranked No. 13 in the nation according to the 247 Network and fourth overall in the Big Ten.
