Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Add UMass and Ohio to Future Schedules

by on January 23, 2019 2:14 PM

Penn State football's future schedules continue to take shape as the program announced two new opponents on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions will host Ohio in Beaver Stadium on Sept. 10, 2022 in the seventh meeting between the schools. Penn State leads the series, 5-1, but the Bobcats won the last contest in the 2012 opener, Bill O'Brien's first game as head coach in the post-Paterno era.

Penn State also will host UMass on Nov. 11, 2023. The two programs took the field last in 2014, a 48-7 win for the Nittany Lions.

With Wednesday's announcement, Penn State's football schedules are complete through the 2023 season. The Nittany Lions open 2022 with a Big Ten road game for the second consecutive season at Purdue (Sept. 3), host Ohio (Sept. 10), visit Auburn (Sept. 17) and host Central Michigan (Sept. 24) during non-conference play, resuming Big Ten action vs. Ohio State on Oct. 1.

In 2023, the Nittany Lions open the season hosting West Virginia (Sept. 2) for the first time since 1991. Penn State will host Delaware (Sept. 9) and open Big Ten play at Illinois (Sept. 16). Massachusetts (Nov. 11) concludes the non-conference slate in 2023.

Additionally, Penn State announced that Nittany Lion men's basketball will play a home-and-home series against UMass. Penn State will travel to Amherst to meet the Minutemen during the 2021-22 basketball season and UMass will play in the Bryce Jordan Center during the 2022-23 campaign.
