Penn State football will open the season at No. 14 in the Amway Coaches Poll. The preseason ranking was released on Thursday afternoon as college football training camps around the country start up this week.

The Nittany Lions are set to host No. 7 Michigan at Beaver Stadium but will travel to No. 5 Ohio State as well as No. 19 Iowa and No. 20 Michigan State. Fellow Big Ten schools Wisconsin (No. 17) and Northwestern (No. 25) round out the conference's representation in the Top 25 but are not on Penn State's 2019 schedule.

The ranking marks the third-straight year Penn State has opened the season inside the top 15 having been ranked No. 10 and No. 6 prior to the 2018 and 2017 seasons, respectively. The Nittany Lions have stayed within the Top 25 since Week 8 of the 2016 season when Penn State debuted at No. 24 the Associated Press Poll, cracking the Coaches Poll the very next week.

Penn State finished the 2018 season at 9-4 and ranked No. 17 in both national polls. Nittany Lions will have been ranked for 41 straight weeks, a mark bettered only by Oklahoma, Clemson, Ohio State and Alabama.

The AP Poll is set to be released later this month.
