Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Pick Up One Of The Fastest Recruits In The Nation

With National Signing Day not far around the the corner Penn State added a 17th member to the 2017 class as four-star corner Donovan Johnson verbally committed on Tuesday night.

Johnson comes in at 5-foot-10 and 176-pounds out of Detroit, Michigan. According to the 247 Network crystal ball predictions, Johnson had been essentially a lock for James Franklin and his staff, especially after a recent visit to campus on December 9th. Johnson is rated the 34th best corner in the class according to the network.

While Penn State was an anticipated landing spot, Virginia Tech and Arizona were two others interested in Johnson's services. Johnson will play for the east team in the US Army American-Bowl.

Penn State's 2017 recruiting haul was rated 15th nationally by the network prior to the commitment with Maryland, Michigan and Ohio State the only Big Ten programs rated higher. The Terrapins have 26 commits in their 2017 class.

Johnson brings elite speed to the table for Penn State, this summer at The Opening Finals, Johnson ran a laser-timed 3.83 shuttle, the fastest time at an event feature plenty of top talent.

His 4.35 40-yard dash was also the third fastest.
