Penn State Football: Nittanyville Set And Ready For Akron
331 campers signed up for the first week of one of the greatest traditions in college football on Wednesday night. Now called Nittanyville, the campout outside Beaver Stadium Gate A has become a sign of true fandom and a badge of honor for many of the biggest Nittany Lion fans.
Students were outside Gate A late last night preparing to set their tents up at the 11 PM start time which would signified the first campout of the season as well as the first of some student's college career.
"I've seen this on TV," one camper said. "And I had to be a part of it. There is just so much school spirit here it's just amazing."
Most weeks Nittanyville will set up shop on Wednesday night, but for special occasions like the Ohio State game later in the season students will build a tent city of over 1,000 strong to grab the best seats in the house come Saturday as early as Tuesday.
While this week might have been a modest turnout compared to what fans will see in the thick of Big Ten season, it is yet another sign Penn State football is only days away from its home opener.
