Penn State Football: O'Brien Considering Changing Uniforms

by on July 26, 2012 2:29 PM

CHICAGO — Bill O'Brien is considering changing one of the biggest traditions in Penn State history — the uniforms.

O'Brien did not elaborate of specific changes he would make. The Reading Eagle reported Wednesday O'Brien told parents on a conference call he's had talks with Nike about a uniform change, including putting names of the back of the jerseys.

When O'Brien was hired in January, he made it clear: "We're not touching the uniforms."

So, what changed?

"I reserve the right to change my mind."

O'Brien is going through a media tour on Day 1 here of Big Ten Media Days.

Among the highlights:

  • O'Brien is keeping all discussions between him and junior running back Silas Redd between the two of them. Redd is mulling a transfer to Southern California.
  • None of the core players, O'Brien said, have indicated they intend to immediately transfer.
  • O'Brien did not comment on other coaches recruiting his current players. In addition to the significant sanctions the NCAA slapped his program with, it also is allowing players to transfer for a year and immediately be eligible to play. "I have no idea nor do I care," O'Brien said when asked who is recruiting his players.
