Penn State Football: O'Brien Has No Plans to Publicly Name Starting Quarterback
Penn State football fans have waited all summer to find out who the starting quarterback will be. According to head coach Bill O'Brien they'll have to wait a little bit longer.
"You’ll find out who the quarterback is on the first play of the game against Syracuse." O'Brien said Tuesday at his week one press conference. The second year coach addressed the question before it was ever asked, eliminating the need for the routine inquiries about Penn State's starting gunslinger.
O'Brien has insisted all along that whatever he does is in the best interest of the team. So when asked if he has told the team who the starting quarterback is the ploy didn't work.
"Just to clarify, you’ll find out on the first snap on Saturday," O'Brien said smiling. “It’s no disrespect to that position or our fans. … I want to do what’s best for our players and what’s best for our football team.”
At this point of the season, only days before Penn State's first game; it seems unlikely that the team truly doesn't know who the quarterback is going to be. Even so, all of the suspense and excitement will leave as quickly as it came once 3:30 rolls around on Saturday afternoon.
