Penn State Football: Report says Campbell Picks Nittany Lions
Less than 48 hours before National Signing Day, Penn State added one more to the 2014 recruiting class.
Three-star defensive back Christian Campbell committed to Penn State on Monday evening, according to Ryan Burns of GopherIllustrated.com.
Campbell hails from Phenix City, Alabama, where he played safety at Central High School. Campbell was rated the 66th best safety in the nation by 247sports.com, which also named him the 24th best recruit in the state of Alabama.
The pick up leaves Penn State with one scholarship remaining for the 2014 recruiting class after a flurry of activity since the hiring of James Franklin as head coach just over two weeks ago. Recruits will make it official on Wednesday by signing their Letters of Intent which will bind them to their school of choice.
Penn State can only carry 75 scholarship players in 2014 because of NCAA sanctions.
If you're interested in getting to know the 2014 class better you can attend "Penn State Football - The Signature Event" at the Bryce Jordan Center on Wednesday. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for general admission seating, with the program starting at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event are $5.00 and Penn State students will be admitted for free with a valid Penn State ID at Gate A. The Jordan Center concession stands will be open before and during the event.
Former Nittany Lion greats LaVar Arrington and Michael Mauti will both speak during the event as well as head coach James Franklin.
