Penn State Football: Reports And Updates On Bill O'Brien's Possible NFL Future

4:44 PM: Monday: David Jones of the Harrisburg Patriot News reporting that Vanderbilt coach James Franklin is a target for what seems to be a pending coaching search if O'Brien were to leave. ESPN reports that O'Brien and the Texans could be official within the next 24 hours.
4:13 PM: Monday: Speaking with the media, Greg Schiano says that he woke up in the morning planning to coach the Buccaneers. Fired earlier today, Schiano says he hasn't had a lot of time to think about what he is going to do.
Monday: NFL.com reports that O'Brien will not be a candidate for the Browns' head coaching job after interviewing for the position last year.

Monday: Tampa Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano is fired, freeing Schiano for Penn State if O'Brien were to leave and if Schiano were to be interested in the job.
Sunday Afternoon: Team sources tell StateCollege.com that the team --aside from individual conversations with O'Brien-- is in large part finding out news as the public does. Not a surprising development, nor indicative of O'Brien's plans, but a noteworthy confirmation.
Sunday Morning: NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that Penn State is preparing to lose Bill O’Brien and that athletic director Dave Joyner is ready to travel to pursue Buccaneers' head coach Greg Schiano. The site also reports that O'Brien has told assistant coaches to prepare for transition to the NFL.

Saturday Night: The Harrisburg Patriot News reports a conversation with Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg's father who told the paper: "Coach has talked to Christian and they’ve had their own conversation, " Erick said. "He asked Christian for it to stay between the two of them so that’s what’s going to happen. He's talked to Bill and we’re comfortable with where it stands."
Saturday Evening: Recent Penn State commit and elite defensive tackle Thomas Holley says O'Brien called him and reaffirmed his commitment to Penn State. “I just off the phone with him," Holley told 247Sports Luke Stampini. "He said he isn’t going. It’s not true."

"He said everything they have put out there is not true, and he's here for Penn State...he's going to be here for me."
Saturday: The Houston Chronicle reports that Houston owner Bob McNair says effectively that O'Brien isn't a done deal. "The process continues. We have other interviews scheduled next week. It isn't over," McNair tells the paper.
Saturday morning: ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter report that after meeting earlier this week, the Houston Texans and Bill O'Brien are beginning work on a contract that would bring O'Brien to Houston and out of Happy Valley. At this point O'Brien is considered to be the top candidate for the Houston job.
