Penn State Football: Saquon Barkley Picks Up Big Ten Offensive Player of The Week Honors

For the second time this season Penn State star sophomore running back Saquon Barkley has picked up Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors. The latest award coming after tallying 277 all-purpose yards in the 62-24 win over Purdue Saturday. 

In addition to his Big Ten weekly award, Barkley was also named CBS Sports National Player of the Week.

With the honor, Barkley becomes the first Nittany Lion since Daryll Clark in 2009 to win multiple Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors in the same season. Clark was a three-time honoree against Akron, Michigan and Michigan State.

Barkley rushed for more than 200 yards for the second time in the last three games with a career-high 207 rushing yards in the win over Purdue. He also caught three passes for 70 receiving yards en route to personal-best 277 all-purpose yards, which is a Penn State sophomore record and rank 14th in program history.

Barkley's performance are the most rushing yards and all-purpose yards since Larry Johnson had 279 rushing and 289 all-purpose yards versus Michigan State in 2002.

At 6-2 No. 20 ranked Penn State returns home this weekend to face Iowa. Kick is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
