by on May 25, 2017 2:22 PM

Penn State's Big Ten Title defense will start against Akron Sept. 2, and kickoff is set for noon on ABC, the network announced on Thursday afternoon.

5-0 all-time against the Zips, Penn State's season opener will mark the first meeting between the two teams since 2014. The game was James Franklin's first in Beaver Stadium as the Nittany Lions went on to win 21-3 in the home opener. Christian Hackenberg threw for 319 yards and three scores in the game while Mike Hull racked up 11 tackles, including a sack.

Every Penn State football game has been televised the past 12 seasons and 289 of the last 291 contests overall have been on TV.

The Nittany Lions return 45 lettermen and 18 starters from last year’s Big Ten Championship squad, led by All-American running back Saquon Barkley and All-Big Ten honorees Trace McSorley, Mike Gesicki, Jason Cabinda, Marcus Allen, Grant Haley and Tyler Davis.

Penn State's noon kick against Akron is the only known kick time of the season so far.
