Penn State Football: Top Rated Running Back Commits To Nittany Lions

by on February 03, 2017 4:28 PM

With the 2017 class only hours into the books, Penn State's 2018 recruiting haul might be the best yet under James Franklin. The Nittany Lions picked up a verbal commitment on Friday from the nation's top rated all-purpose running back, Ricky Slade.

Slade, a composite five-star back according to the 247 Network, hails from Woodbridge, Va., and comes in on the scales at 5-foot-9 and 195 pounds. Slade had picked up offers from multiple schools with Ohio State considered by most recruiting outlets as the second most likely landing spot to Penn State.

The latest Penn State commit is rated the 24th best prospect in his class and joins Harrisburg native and defensive end Micah Parsons as a second five-star prospect in Penn State's 2018 haul.

So far James Franklin and his staff have nine early verbal commitments for the 2018 class which rates out as the nation's best so far, early in the cycle. Slade is the second commitment this week for 2018, outside linebacker Charlie Katshir verbally committing just a day earlier. [Update: Penn State picked up another commitment on Friday from linebacker Jesse Luketa.]
