Penn State Football: Troy Reeder Verbally Commits to Penn State, First Three of 2014 Class Secure

by on February 26, 2013 1:16 PM

Multiple recruiting outlets are reporting Tuesday afternoon that linebacker Troy Reeder has verbally committed to play for Penn State.

The Wilmington, Delaware native weighs in at 6-foot-3, 232 pounds and makes the second verbal commitment to Penn State since head coach Bill O'Brien and his staff hosted several top prospects over the weekend for Junior Day.

Fairfax, Va., running back Nick Scott gave O'Brien his verbal commitment following his visit on Saturday. Both he and Reeder join running back Mark Allen who verbally committed in October.

Reeder held scholarship offers from Boston College, Miami, Maryland, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh.

With three of the 15 allotted scholarships taken for the 2014 recruiting class, O'Brien and his staff will continue to comb through film and interviews to find the final 12 players that will fit their needs and expectations.

The first few commits of any class are often the ones taking the biggest leap. Without knowing who will be joining you during your college years, being one of the first to make the call can be tough. Here is a look back on the "First Three" over the past few years.
