Penn State Football: Two More Sign Free Agent Deals In Philadelphia As Nittany Lions Find NFL Homes

by on April 27, 2019 9:00 PM

With the NFL Draft in the books Saturday night, undrafted players from across the nation will continue to look for a place to start the next chapter of their careers as free agents.

For six Nittany Lions, they've managed to hitch their wagon to five different teams as Philadelphia has quickly become among Penn State's farthest most eastern campus.

So far this weekend a total of four Penn State players have been tabbed by the recent Super Bowl champs with Miles Sanders and Shareef Miller drafted in the second and fourth rounds and both offensive lineman Ryan Bates and receiver DeAndre Thompkins landing free agent deals.

The terms of these particular agreements are unknown at this time but can vary from tryouts to actual longer seasonal terms.

Thompkins in particular is an interesting signing on an Eagles team that recently acquired potential Hall of Fame speedster DeSean Jackson and has no obvious kick return specialist. With Jackson in the final years of his career, few players in the league would be more well suited to teach Thompkins the ways of speed in the NFL.

Father south of Philadelphia, long snapper Kyle Vasey has landed with the Atlanta Falcons while Altoona product and defensive lineman Kevin Givens has found his way to San Fransisco. Linebacker Koa Farmer will head back to California to play with the Oakland Raiders, he will join fellow Nittany Lions in Jason Cabinda and Saeed Blacknal there.

Running back Johnathan Thomas was reportedly suit up in Cincinnati as well this summer.

For Penn State the draft process ought to be winding down fairly soon. Of the players to participate at Penn State's Pro Day, only two remain unsigned at the time of this story. Those players are offensive tackle Chasz Wright and linebacker Jake Cooper.

Most free agent signings happen within a day or two of the draft's completion, but there is no immediate deadline for players or teams to solidify their futures.

This story will be updated as needed. Six, now former, Penn State players were drafted during this weekend's seven round marathon.
