Penn State Football: Two Weekend Commits Cap Off Recruiting Frenzy

by on January 26, 2015 2:00 PM

A weekend packed full of recruiting visits and tours of Penn State's campus ended with two verbal commitments for James Franklin and his staff this past weekend.

Defensive tackle Robert Windsor was the first of the two commits to make his pledge official on Sunday. While Franklin normally announces commitments via a "We Are...Better" tweet, Windsor actually beat his future head coach to the punch for a rare change in the recruiting news cycle.

Windsor a 2015 three-star 6-foot-5, 260 pound defensive tackle from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin who held offers from Maryland, Purdue, Illinois, New Mexico, and Wisconsin. The 247 Network rates Windsor the fifth best prospect out of the state of Wisconsin for the 2015 recruiting class. Windsor gave Penn State 21 recruits for the 2015 haul when he announced his plans to take his talents to State College.

Commit No. 22 on the year, was Philadelphia defensive end Sharreef Miller who also made his commitment known on Sunday as well after visiting Penn State.

At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Miller brings plenty of size and strength to Happy Valley with him. The 247 Network ranks Miller as the 12th best player in the state and gives Penn State yet another slice of the top talent coming from within the borders of the state.

Miller held offers from Rutgers, Pitt, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Syracuse among many others.

Penn State's 2015 recruiting class snow stands at 22 prospects with Signing Day less than a month away. Franklin and the rest of his staff will likely shift their recruiting focus towards the 2016 talent pool as Penn State looks to go back-to-back with Top 15 recruiting classes. The current class is ranked 12th best in the nation and is loaded with four-star recruits making it an impressive start to the Franklin era.
