As a Penn State search committee seeks a new head football coach, in-house university writer Tony Mancuso sat down this week to interview the acting athletic director, Dr. David Joyner.

Among the most talked-about issues surrounding the search is the possibility that interim Coach Tom Bradley could return to the helm next season.

"I cannot say who has applied or who hasn't, but I will say that everyone that is interested in this job can contact me," Joyner told Mancuso.

Asked about the qualifications that Penn State is looking for, Joyner was much more specific.

He said the university wants "a real warrior that can win, with the real moral, ethical and academic thought processes that we're looking for."

Asked about the apparent absence of a "diverse football background" on the search committee, Joyner said he does not see that as a problem.

"No, not at all," he said. "I think the most important thing is, No. 1, it's easy to evaluate if somebody is able to win and has a history of a strong performance basis. We have enough friends and people that are very good that if we need to ask some questions about any specific Xs and Os, we certainly can reach out to people to do that."

The search committee will meet next week to begin the process of evaluating and interviewing coaches. While no specific date has been set in terms of making a hire, it is anticipated that Penn State will have named a coach by the date of university's still-unannounced bowl game.
