Penn State Football: Virginia Series Still Up In The Air
Penn State fans might remember, or have decided to forget, the Nittany Lions' 2012, 16-17 loss to Virginia on the road in Bill O'Brien's first year at the helm in State College.
What they may have also forgotten, that the meeting was meant to be the first of a home-and-home series that would see the Cavaliers travel to Happy Valley for a rematch during a future season.
But a quick skim down Penn State's upcoming schedules and the only Virginia to be found is Tech and then West in 2024. That doesn't mean the game isn't coming though.
“It’s still floating out there,” Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour said on Thursday. “We’re trying to find a good place for it.”
The change, Virginia backing out of the 2013 meeting in order to host Oregon. The Ducks would end up winning the game 59-10 so who got the better end of that bargain might be debatable.
Where the game fits into Penn State's immediate future is a little unclear. The Nittany Lions' out of conference schedule is largely filled out until 2020 when Penn State will travel to Virginia Tech. Beyond that Penn State's schedule is fairly open aside from two more meetings with Virginia Tech, Virginia, Ball State and the anticipated home-and-home series against Auburn starting at Beaver Stadium in 2021.
