Penn State has formed a search committee that's "charged with identifying candidates and appointing" PSU's next head football coach, the university reported Monday.

Acting Athletic Director Dr. David Joyner is leading the committee, according to a news release. University President Rodney Erickson named him the committee chairman.

Joyner announced the committee's other members Monday, Penn State reported.

Those other committee members are Linda Caldwell, a university faculty athletics representative; Charmelle Green, an associate athletic director and senior woman administrator; Ira Lubert, a Penn State trustee and chairman of Independence Capital Partners and Lubert Adler Partners; John Nichols, an emeritus professor at Penn State and chairman of the Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics; and Russ Rose, the head coach for Penn State women's volleyball.

Joyner said the search committee will meet this week, according to the news release.

No specific time frame for naming a new football coach was immediately announced. The next head coach will be the 15th to hold the position in the program's 125-year history.

The university trustees removed the immediate past head coach, Joe Paterno, on Nov. 9. He had held the position for 46 years.

Tom Bradley, named the interim head coach, has said he "certainly would want the permanent job."

Joyner, meanwhile, has said that "anybody's name is in the mix that wants to apply for the head coaching job."
