Penn State Gets Ready for College GameDay

As Penn State hosts the annual White Out game at Beaver Stadium Saturday night, many fans will start the day with an entirely different spectacle.

Prior to 2017 ESPN's College GameDay went eight years without visiting Penn State, but Saturday's visit will mark a milestone as the show previews the Penn State-Michigan matchup. It will be the third consecutive year the network's flagship college football show has visited Happy Valley.

"I think it's pretty cool that ... in the history of Penn State football — we've played a lot of good football here for a long time — this is the first time ever we've had GameDay on our campus three years in a row," Coach James Franklin said this week.

ESPN's Judi Weiss, a Penn State alumna and senior operations producer for GameDay, said traveling week-to-week provides a new challenge each time. At Penn State, that included finding exactly where it could position the mobile unit on the HUB Lawn.

"It's not only about getting the two trucks up to here, but I have to have a clear shot for my [satellite] uplink," Weiss said.

Centre County Report's Zach Kaplan takes a look at the setup for Saturday's show.
