Penn State Golf: Follow Along As Former Nittany Lions TJ Howe And Kevin Foley Take On US Open

Penn State fans might be rooting for the Jordan Spieths and Jason Days of the world, but if you want to see some former Nittany Lions give the US Open a run you have two chances to do so.

Kevin Foley and TJ Howe both are participating in the second major tournament of the 2016-17 PGA Tour season, this one taking place at Oakmont Country Club just outside of Pittsburgh. Howe qualified for the tournament with Foley being added to the field earlier this week.

With rain and thunderstorms breaking into the area plays has already been suspended twice this morning, but not before Foley made it through six holes. Howe is set to tee off later this afternoon.

Kevin Foley's day started on the 10th tee: Currently +5 after the first round. [10-of-14 fairways hit, 11-of-18 greens]

10th Hole: Drains a 27-foot putt for birdie.

11th Hole: Leaves 31-foot putt a foot short for bogey.

12th Hole: Long birdie putt comes up foot short.

13th Hole: 2-foot par putt inches off for bogey.

14th Hole: Missed 7-foot par putt, bogey.

15th Hole: Missed medium length par putt, bogey.

16th Hole: Misses 6-foot birdie putt and settles for par.

17th Hole: Makes 6-foot put for bogey.

18th Hole: Steadies the ship with a par to make the turn in 39.

1st Hole: Bogey on the card brings Foley to +5 on the day.

2nd Hole: Par putt falls to make it two pars in three holes, 15 footer for birdie comes up just short.

3rd Hole: Bogey after 9 foot par putt comes up short.

4th Hole: Sticks a shot to 3 feet and buries the putt for birdie on the Par 4.

5th Hole: 11 foot birdie putt comes up foot short, par

6th Hole: Bogey after long par putt is short.

7th Hole: 3 foot par putt falls.

8th Hole: 6 foot par putt falls on the Par 3.

9th Hole: 9 foot birdie putt falls to end the round.

 

TJ Howe: Currently +6 after the first round of play [7-of-14 fairways hit 9-of-18 greens]

1st Hole: 28 foot par putt comes up short, bogey.

2nd Hole: Drains 7 foot bogey putt

3rd Hole: 38 foot birdie putt comes up 3 feet short. First par of the day.

4th Hole: 10 foot par putt comes up 11 inches short, bogey.

5th Hole: 7 foot par putt misses, bogey on the Par 4

6th Hole: 8 foot par putt just shy, bogey.

7th Hole: 6 foot par putt falls to steady the ship.

8th Hole: Nice 10 foot par putt for a second straight par

9th Hole: 4 foot par putt falls to close out the front nine in 40

10th Hole: Long par putt comes up shy as Howe settles for bogey.

11th Hole: Par putt gives Howe some stability early on the back nine.

12th Hole: 40 foot par putt comes up 4 feet short, bogey.

13th Hole: Par putt falls and it's +7 on the day for Howe.

14th Hole: Par again as Howe continues to steady.

15th Hole: Par from 3 feet out keeps Howe at +7

16th Hole: 64 foot birdie try comes up 6 feet short and Howe buries it for par

17th Hole: A 40 foot birdie try finds the hole to bring Howe back to +6

18th Hole: Six feet for par ends Howe's round.
