Penn State Hockey: Autio Set To Join Goodwin In Finland

by on May 15, 2018 2:00 PM

Penn State hockey's reach will continue overseas as Erik Autio is the most recent Nittany Lion to sign a professional contract following his senior season. Autio will head back to his native land of Finland to play for SaiPa in Finland's Liiga league.

As if going back home wasn't enough, Autio will play alongside former teammate David Goodwin who graduated a year prior. Goodwin will almost certainly be happy to see a familiar face on a roster that has just five players from outside of Europe.

Goodwin tallied 29 point in his debut season  split between 10 goals and 19 assists.

Autio is the third Penn State player to find a professional home this offseason. Andrew Sturtz opted to forego his senior season and signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators' franchise while Trevor Hamilton currently plays for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.

The two won't be the only former Nittany Lions to play together at the next level, former captain David Glen and forward Eric Scheid both recently played for Gap in the French league this past season.

While the exact number is somewhat fluid until it is all on paper, Penn State is scheduled to welcome a handful of new faces to the roster this summer.
