Penn State Hockey: Big Ten Play Continues As Wisconsin Comes To Town

by on January 14, 2016 2:00 PM

It says a lot about the state of things that Penn State hockey can have lost just two of its last 13 games and suddenly the alarm bells are ringing.

“Right now, one game isn’t going to change how we’ve been successful all year,” Coach Guy Gadowsky said earlier this week following Penn State's 7-1 loss to Minnesota on Saturday.

And that's all that really needs to be said. Penn State finds itself with 9 of a possible 12 points so far in Big Ten play, just five points behind Michigan in first place in conference play.

On paper a series win against Wisconsin appears to be a foregone conclusion. The Badgers have been an up and down squad, but with a 3-1 victory on the road over No. 1 North Dakota, a 4-8-6 record is hardly without a showing of potential along the way. A sweep this weekend would send Penn State to Columbus on a high note for the first road test of the conference schedule before playing home and away against Michigan to close out January.

So as usual, Penn State hockey finds itself with another big series on its hands and another big weekend to take a step towards a Big Ten title.

• Friday’s game is the second televised game of the season for the Nittany Lions. Big Ten Network will broadcast at 6:30 p.m. with a live stream available on BTN2Go for those cable customers with access to BTN. Rick Pizzo, Paul Caponigri and Fred Pletsch will have the call.

• Saturday’s game at 6 p.m. will air live on ESPNU and TSN2 in Canada. Kevin Brown and Sean Ritchlin will have the call as the game will also stream on WatchESPN.
