Penn State Hockey: Goodwin Picks Up Third Star Honors

by on March 07, 2017 2:00 PM

Two goals and a senior night victory was enough for the rest of the conference to notice as Penn State captain David Goodwin has been named the Big Ten Conference Third Star of the Week.

After having his career-high and program-long 10-game point streak snapped on Friday night, Goodwin tied his career-high with four points, including two goals and two assists, during a 6-0 victory on Saturday as part of Senior Night.

This is Goodwin’s first weekly honor this season and the fifth of his career as he becomes the sixth different Nittany Lion to earn weekly accolades so far this season, joining freshmen Denis Smirnov, Nate Sucese and Peyton Jones along with sophomore classmates Chase Berger and Vince Pedrie.

In total Penn State has had 12 weekly stars so far this season. Goodwin is currently the program leader in points (125) and assists (82) while his 43 goals are good for second only, trailing the 45 of Casey Bailey.

The 11th-ranked Nittany Lions return to action this weekend as they travel to Ann Arbor to battle Michigan in the final regular season series of the year on Friday and Saturday evening at 7:35 p.m. each night.
