Penn State Hockey: Kerr Expected Back For Michigan Series

If Penn State hockey's occasionally up and down season could be attributed to anything off the ice, it's injuries. All across the roster players have come and gone with bumps and bruises, interrupting the team's flow in the process.

As the Nittany Lions got healthier and healthier an 11-game unbeaten streak came with it. Penn State falling this past Saturday to finally snap that streak, but a run that put the Nittany Lions firmly back in the postseason picture.

And heading to Michigan this weekend for a key Big Ten showdown, Penn State might be adding that one final piece to the puzzle.

“We would attempt to put him back with Trevor Hamilton,” Gadowsky said of defenseman Kevin Kerr. “They seem to have great synergy. That’s the plan moving forward.”

Kerr, is arguably one of Penn State's most skilled players in every area on the ice. The  top defenseman coming back this this weekend will mark his first action since Dec. 2. Kerr missed six games with a broken wrist and had missed 12 games earlier this season with a different injury.

“This is important for them and it’s important for us,” Gadowsky said of this weekend. “Partly why you come to the Big Ten, to play in big games with big implications.”

Penn State sits five points ahead of Michigan in the Big Ten standings in third place, two points behind Ohio State. With the new Big Ten Tournament format allowing higher seeded teams to host on campus, a Top 4 finish in the conference means playing in front of your own fans. Notre Dame has an 11 point lead on the entire conference race, 13 ahead of Penn State, effectively making the rest of the season a race for the final three spots.

Penn State has 10 regular season games remaining.
