Penn State Hockey: Kevin Kerr To Miss Exhibition Game With Injury But Hopeful For Opening Night

by on October 04, 2018 4:40 PM

Penn State senior defenseman Kevin Kerr will miss at least this weekend's exhibition game against Brock with a lower body injury but coach Guy Gadowsky is hopeful that Kerr will be healthy for the Nittany Lions' first NCAA next week against Clarkson and next Thursday and Friday.

Kerr skated in 20 games during the 2017-18 season for the Nittany Lions scoring a goal and adding nine assists. He was sidelined for a portion of the year due to a new injury after already suffering a season-ending ailment the year prior in 2016-17. During Penn State's run to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance Kerr contributed two goals and 13 assists.

Unfortunately for Kerr he was forced to miss the Nittany Lions' NCAA Tournament appearance, watching from the stands in Cincinnati Ohio with his foot in a boot.

For Penn State the loss of Kerr continues to be a difficult obstacle to overcome as -when healthy- he is one of the best two-way players on the team and a talented skater. While his numbers may not reflect that, Kerr is unanimously respected by his teammates and coaches for what he brings to the ice.

The Nittany Lions are already thin and fairly inexperienced in the defensive zone, the loss of Kerr will do little to help that cause.
