Penn State Hockey: Nittany Lions Add Johnstown Product To Incoming Freshman Class

Penn State hockey added another defenseman to the fold this week as Adam Pilewicz of the Johnstown Tomahawks announced his commitment on Thursday.

At the age of 20, Pilewicz joins Penn State as an alumni of Quaker Valley High School and Pittsburgh Penguins Elite for midget major. In 54 games this season he has registered four goals and 23 assists, leading the way for all Tomahawk defenders.

“I grew up a Penn State fan and I can remember going to football games every Saturday,” Pilewicz said in a press release. “I have spent a lot of time on the campus and I feel fortunate to be able to play hockey there and join my brother and sister at Penn State.”

“This is an absolutely great day for the Tomahawks organization seeing Adam commit to Penn State,” added head coach Mike Letizia. “He has been a vital part of our D group and our entire team over his two seasons in Johnstown. He has worked extremely hard to grow and mature his game since his rookie year and deserves the credit for the work he has willingly put in.”

“Penn State was one of the top teams in all of college hockey this year and they should continue to only get better,” Letizia continued. “The fact that Adam will now be a part of that continued evolution and tradition is very exciting. I am proud of him for earning a fantastic opportunity and I couldn’t be happier for him and his family.”

Pilewicz will join Alex Stevens and Cole Hults as the third defensemen in Penn State's freshman class for the 2017-18 season. Both will look to do their part to fill the void left behind on the defensive end of the ice by graduating senior David Thompson and Vince Pedrie who recently signed a two-way deal with the New York Rangers.

Eight players in total are slated to join the Nittany Lions in 2017, although not all have signed their National Letters of Intent.
