Penn State Hockey: Nittany Lions Ranked No. 12 In Latest USCHO Poll

Penn State hockey's early season success continues to reflect its standing in the rest of the college landscape as the Nittany Lions moved up to a program-high No. 12 in this week's USCHO poll.

The Nittany Lions come in just ahead of fellow Big Ten team Ohio State at No. 14 and Michigan at No. 18. Penn State's early season success has seen the Nittany Lions open the year with a 7-1-1 record thank in large part the the second best penalty kill in the nation and the No. 4 offense averaging 4.22 goals per game.

Peyton Jones is still undefeated in net this season and the No. 7 defense in the nation has done well to keep it that way early in the 2016-17 campaign.

Penn State is currently in the middle of a 10-game home stand and will host Alaska Anchorage this weekend.

In addition to the USCHO ranking, Penn State is currently No. 2 in the PairWise which is the equivalent of college hockey's BCS that mimics the selection committees process for picking the 16 teams to enter the postseason. The PariWise is the sum of several factors such as RPI, and head-to-head results, it isn't not strictly speaking a power ranking but rather a way to objectively compare teams.

Even so, the Nittany Lions have started about as well as you could hope for with plenty of hockey still yet to be played.
