Penn State Hockey: Pedrie Lands First-Team Big Ten Honors

Penn State sophomore defenseman Vince Pedrie has been recognized for his solid 2016-17 season, named to the Big Ten's first-team on Monday afternoon the conference announced.

Pedrie enters the Big Ten tournament tied for the lead in goals by a defenseman with teammate Kris Myllari in Penn State's aggressive defenseman scheme with seven tallies. That same strategy has helped Pedrie pick up 26 points on the year, just behind Ohio State's Jake Bischoff's 32 points.

Nationally Pedrie is four goals and 10 points behind the national lead in both categories.

Nobody gets more rubber on net than Pedrie, near the end of his sophomore campaign he has registered 156 shots on net, best in the nation.

Pedrie is Penn State hockey's second first-team honoree after Casey Bailey was named to the unit following the 2014-15 season when Bailey scored 22 goals and 18 assists.

In addition, a trio of Lions were recognized as honorable mentions as senior David Goodwin, along with freshman classmates Denis Smirnov and Peyton Jones. Jones and Smirnov also join classmate Kris Myllari as members of the All-Freshman Team.

Penn State hits the ice again in the first round of the Big Ten tournament on Thursday night against Michigan. The Nittany Lions currently sit just inside the NCAA Tournament bubble, a win on Thursday likely locking up a first ever postseason berth.
