Penn State Hockey: Trevor Hamilton Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year

Trevor Hamilton was named 2017-18 Defensive Player of the Year by coaches and media on Tuesday afternoon, as the conference announced all of its postseason honors Tuesday ahead of Saturday's Big Ten Championship.

Hamilton leads all defensive players in the Big Ten with 29 points so far this season, good enough for ninth best in the entire country. So far this season Hamilton six goals and 23 assists to his name, with 80 shots on goal.

Along with Hamilton, the three finalists included Notre Dame's Jake Evans and Jordan Gross. The Fighting Irish also have goaltender Cale Morris who was named the Big Ten's player and goalkeeper of the year. Notre Dame coach Jeff Jackson was up for coach of the year as well. That honor went to Steve Rohlik of Ohio State.

Penn State will await Sunday's announcement of the NCAA Tournament field of 16 after falling 3-2 to Notre Dame in the Big Ten semifinals this past Saturday. The Irish will host Ohio State for the Big Ten Tournament final this coming Saturday.

Along with Hamilton, forward Andrew Sturtz was an honorable mention honoree while Erik Autio was named Penn State's sportsmanship representative.
