Penn State: Joyner's Salary as Acting Athletic Director is $396,000
Penn State acting athletic director Dave Joyner is being paid an annual base salary of $396,000, according to a document Penn State made available on its new “openness” website.
That breaks down to $33,000 per month under the memorandum of understanding made public Monday by the university, which states that Joyner's employment agreement is indefinite, but can be terminated with 30 days notice.
The agreement is posted on the site “Information Resource: Toward a More Open University.”
Joyner, a surgeon and businessman who was a standout wrestler and football player at Penn State, resigned as a member of Penn State's Board of Trustees to accept the acting athletic director’s position Nov. 16.
Penn State athletic director Tim Curley is on administrative leave to defend himself against perjury and failure to report charges connected with the Sandusky child sexual-abuse case. On Monday, Curley asked a judge to dismiss the perjury charges against him, arguing the prosecution has no case after the death of Joe Paterno.
In Curley’s absence, Joyner directed the search committee that hired former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to succeed Paterno as the Nittany Lions' head football coach.
Other details of Joyner’s agreement with Penn State stipulate that he:
-- Must devote the substantial amount of "the acting athletic director's business time, service and best efforts exclusively to the affairs of the university."
-- Is to receive a vehicle similar in make and model to vehicles provided to previous athletic directors.
-- Is eligible to receive university benefits.
