Penn State Rallies Around Cheerleader Injured in Fall

by on October 15, 2012 5:10 PM

Friends and family of a woman injured in a 39-foot fall on Saturday night took to social media to express their anguish and found many supporters along the way.

Police have yet to confirm her identity, but family and friends of Paige Raque, 19, have been tweeting their thoughts and prayers for her since she fell 39 feet from a fifth-floor apartment at 11:46 p.m. on Saturday at Calder Commons, 520 E. College Ave.

The hashtag #prayforpaige on Twitter popped up shortly after Raque was flown to the trauma center at Altoona Region Medical Center. Raque's brother, Parker, a member of the Penn State gymnastics team, tweeted on Monday that his sister had been placed in the intensive care unit following an MRI.

Parker, (@RaqueBalboa) has been tweeting updates to a Penn State community waiting for answers and hoping for the best possible result.

On Sunday night:

"Paige just had an MRI and has been moving around a bit in her sleep. one step at a time #prayforpaige"

On Monday around 4:45 p.m.

"No change yet with Paige's status but we are receiving so much love and support. We are waiting upon the Lord who is good.#prayforpaige"

Randy Jepson, the Penn State men's gymnastics coach and spokesman for the Raque family said Paige sustained a traumatic brain injury and her condition is day-to-day.

"Everyone's prayers are appreciated," he said.

Meanwhile, the Penn State community is showing its love for the blond cheerleader through photos and tweets.
