Penn State Student Killed in Atherton Street Crash

A Penn State student was killed on Monday evening after being struck by a car on North Atherton Street.

Michael Eiben, 23, was crossing North Atherton when Joel Berger, 27 of State College, hit him driving southbound on the major street.

Police responded to the crash at 10:48 p.m. on Monday. Eiben was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical center, and later life-flighted to Geisenger Medical Center in Danville. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to a press release from State College police, the crash is under investigation.

Police urge anyone with information on the crash to call the department at 814-234-7150, by e-mail, or by submitting an anonymous tip on their website.
