It appears that Penn State football assistant coach Mike McQueary will not participate in Saturday's Nebraska game at Beaver Stadium.

At 9:47 p.m. Thursday, the university athletics department released a statement about his status. It reads:

"Due to multiple threats made against Assistant Coach Mike McQueary, the university has decided it would be in the best interest of all for Assistant Coach McQueary not to be in attendance at Saturday's Nebraska game."

Nothing further was included in the communication, sent by university athletics spokesman Jeff Nelson.

McQueary has become the focus of much public attention and criticism in the past week. A grand-jury report shows that he witnessed former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky commit a sexual attack on a child in March 2002. It happened in a university football facility, the report shows.

According to grand-jury findings, McQueary did not call police, instead calling his father before going to then-coach Joe Paterno with the news the next day.

McQueary apparently has made no public statements since the emergence of the grand-jury report late last week. Sandusky has since been charged with 40 criminal counts in an alleged pattern of child sexual abuse. Two administrators have been criminally charged in connection with the case, and football Coach Joe Paterno and university President Graham Spanier have been ousted.
