Penn State Women's Basketball: Coquese Washington Earns 100th Victory in 60-41 Win at Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Penn State women's basketball team gave coach Coquese Washington her 100th career victory with a 60-41 win at Virginia Tech on Wednesday night.
Virginia Tech used a box-and-1 and a triangle-and-2 to frustrate the Lady Lions at the offensive end. Mia Nickson captured her 12th double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Maggie Lucas led four players in double figures with 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting, Dara Taylor added 15 and Alex Bentley had another solid game with 10 points, four assists and five steals.
The coaching staff was not thrilled with the play of the team against an over-matched opponent. The Lions struggled at the offensive end for the majority of the contest. An interesting note: Going into the game, Washington was not aware she was on the brink of a milestone in her coaching career. In her sixth season with the Lady Lions, she came to Penn State from Notre Dame, where she also played her collegiate ball.
The victory ended the nonconference road schedule for Penn State, as it returns home for two more nonconference games, beginning with South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon.
