Second Half Update: Penn State 82, NJIT 37

The Lady Lions ended their nonconference slate with an easy 82-37 victory after a 38-point second half put NJIT away. Penn State at one point held a 53-9 lead.

Maggie Lucas led the way with 21 points and eight rebounds in only 26 minutes of play. Ten different Penn State players scored in the contest while shooting 46 percent from the field. Penn State hit 7-of-10 3-pointers and held NJIT to only 27 percent shooting on the afternoon. The Lady Lions added 17 steals while totaling 22 assists, scoring 38 points in the paint.

NJIT saw marginally more success in the second half scoring 28 points, but the Lady Lions' largest lead of 49 points was far too large to overcome.

Halftime Update: Penn State 44, NJIT 9

The Lady Lions opened up firing on all cylinders in the second part of Sunday's men's and women's doubleheader, taking a 44-9 lead into halftime over NJIT.

Junior guard Maggie Lucas was her usual self, leading the Lady Lions with 13 points and seven rebounds. Alex Bentley recorded six steals and Nikki Greene contributed eight of the Lady Lions' 22 points in the paint.

NJIT struggled to find any offense, shooting 17 percent from the field while turning the ball over 15 times. The Lady Lions were the exact opposite, shooting 48 percent from the field while turning the ball over only five times.

The nine points allowed by Penn State in the first half are the fewest given up in a half since the Lady Lions took on Rider in 2010, allowing only seven first-half points.
