Penn State Women's Soccer: Nittany Lions Defeat Duke 1-0, Headed to Final Four

by on November 23, 2012 10:10 PM

Penn State midfielder Christine Nairn fired a penalty kick past Duke's goalkeeper in the 14th minute of play to give Penn State a 1-0 victory and a place in the NCAA Division I Women's College Cup.

Following Nairn's 16th goal of the year, the Nittany Lions fell back and defended for most of the first and second half. Penn State's defense was particularly strong in the second half despite giving up 11 shots.

The Nittany Lions will now face top-seeded Florida State in an NCAA semifinal on Friday in San Diego. The game will air on ESPN3 or ESPNU at either 8:30 p.m. or 11 p.m. This marks the fourth season Penn State has made the College Cup Final Four, having previously advanced to it in 1999, 2002 and 2005.
