Coming off its 13th national semifinal appearance last year, Penn State women's volleyball will once again start the season ranked in the top 10.

The Nittany Lions came in at No. 6 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll released on Wednesday. Penn State has now been ranked in the AVCA top 25 for 427 consecutive polls, dating back to the end of the 1988 season.

Penn State finished the 2017 season at 33-2 and ranked No. 3 after falling to eventual national champion Nebraska in five sets in the NCAA Semifinals. The defending champion Cornhuskers are No. 2 in this year's preseason poll, behind No. 1 Stanford. Texas, Minnesota and Kentucky round out the top five.

The Big Ten lands four other teams in the top 25, with No. 9 Wisconsin, No. 12 Illinois, No. 22 Michigan State and No. 23 Purdue.

The Nittany Lions will have 11 matches against preseason top 25 opponents, including nine in the Big Ten and two -- Stanford and No. 18 Oregon -- during the nonconference slate.

Penn State opens the season on Aug. 24 against Eastern Kentucky.
