Penn State Wrestling: Nittany Lions Ranked No. 1 By InterMat Heading Into 2013-14 Season
Looking for its fourth straight Big Ten and NCAA titles, Penn State enters the 2013-14 season ranked in the top spot in InterMat's Tournament Power Index with 100.5 points. Iowa is second with 99, followed by Minnesota (83), Oklahoma (70.5) and Oklahoma State (70.5).
The Nittany Lions have nine wrestlers ranked in the individual standings by InterMat, with David Taylor and Ed Ruth each garnering No. 1 spots at 165 and 184 pounds respectively.
Taylor finished last season as the national runner-up at 165 pounds. Ruth ended 2012 having won his second national title at 184. Ruth posted his second straight undefeated season last year, going 33-0. He has won 68 straight matches dating back to 2011 and is 102-2 for his career.
Nico Megaludis is ranked No. 2 in the 125 weight-class. Like Taylor, Megaludis finished the 2012 season as national runner-up.
The Nittany Lion twins, Andrew and Dylan Alton are ranked Nos. 8 and 6 at 149 and 157 pounds respectively while All-American 174-pounder Matt Brown is ranked No. 3 at 174 pounds. Jimmy Gulibon found his name in the conversation coming in at No. 11 at 133 pounds.
Morgan McIntosh rounds out the ranked Nittany Lions at No. 4 in the 197 pound class.
