Penn State's Great Insect Fair returns this weekend to give the public an glimpse at the often unseen world of bugs.

"See the Unseen" is the theme for this year's fair, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Snider Ag Arena on the University Park campus.

"Many intriguing aspects of insect behavior happen at times or in places that make them difficult for people to see," Margarita López-Uribe, one of the fairs organizers and an assistant professor of entomology, said in a release. "For example, the Insect Fair will offer an exhibit on gall insects, which trick plants into building structures where the insects have protected places to feed and reproduce."

The fair will feature a nocturnal insect tent, to see species that are active when many people are asleep. A demonstration honey bee hive will offer a look inside the workings of a bee colony.

Among the other exhibits and activities are:

  •        Insect zoo
  •        Backyard bees
  •        Honey tasting
  •        Bumblebees
  •        Butterfly tents
