Penn State's Guy Bluford, First African American in Space, Featured on Fox News
Guy Bluford became the first African American in space on Aug. 30, 1983, as a member of the crew aboard the third flight of the space shuttle Challenger.
After graduating from Penn State in 1964 with a B.S. in aerospace engineering, he entered active duty with the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a pilot during the Vietnam War, according to Penn State.
