Interstate 80 bridge preservation work is underway and PennDOT is advising drivers traveling for Penn State home football games that travel delays are likely as the interstate is restricted to one lane in work zones.

According to a PennDOT press release, on home game weekends, drivers should be alert for slowed or stopped traffic between mile marker 173 at Lamar in Clinton County and mile marker 161 at Bellefonte in Centre County.

Traffic is likely to back up at the Bellefonte/161westbound off ramp. Pennsylvania State Police will direct traffic at the off-ramp toimprove the traffic flow.

Message boards will be in place alerting drivers of delays. PennDOT's work to repair six I-80 bridges in Centre County will continue through November of this year andwill impact all home football game traffic, the press release said.

A PennDOT spokeswoman said there will also be signs in place to encourage drivers coming from the east to take exit 173 at Lamar and follow SR 64 to the State College area. Doing so will help alleviate some of the congestion we expect at the 161 interchange.

Motorists are also reminded of standard delays they may encounter after the gameson Route 26 northbound.
