People's Choice Festival Gets Ready for Thursday Opening

by on July 09, 2014 12:45 PM

The 22nd annual People's Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts is gearing up for its Thursday opening.

The event, which is extremely popular and draws some big crowds, will once again be held on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg.

The festival will run until Sunday and will feature art created in Pennsylvania along with a variety of foods and dozens of musical acts. The People's Choice event is widely-viewed as a more relaxed rival to this week's Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in downtown State College.

The event is free, however, there will be on-site parking fees.

Nearly 200 artists will showcase their work at the People's Choice Festival. There will also be more than 20 food vendors, a specialty food tent with local food producers, Pennsylvania wineries, and more than 40 entertainment acts. Check out a list of food vendors HERE. Check out the live entertainment schedule HERE.

There will also be child-friendly aspects, including crafts, science activities, a petting zoo, bouncing house and face painting. Check out a full list of children's activities HERE.

John Madison, co-director of the event, says the festival has a lot to offer.

"We have very high quality craftsmanship. The artists who are here actually make the products. They can talk to you about the products and answer questions about the products," he says.

Madison says the arts and crafts are generally affordable with higher-end items also available.

"If you've got $20 you can walk out of here with something nice and handmade. If you've got $1,000, you can walk out of here with something nice and handmade. There's something for everybody," Madison says.

The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
