PHILIPSBURG — The Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation (PRC) is adding a special element to its farmer’s market this Saturday, Oct. 17: a crafter’s fair featuring handmade items.

The market has been taking place each Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. downtown at the intersection of North Front and Pine streets. It has featured certified organic produce from a Centre County farm, locally raised meats, plants, flowers, handmade soaps and lotions and a variety of food trucks, including the ever-popular “Chimney Twists” and “That Pierogie Guy.”

“The PRC felt that Philipsburg was missing an opportunity for local farmers and hobbyists to sell their produce and products locally, so with that, the farmer’s market took shape,” said Kevin Murphy, PRC board member and market organizer. “With COVID forcing a later start than we wanted, it’s been a bit of a struggle getting it to grow. However, each week we see new vendors joining the market, and we hope that trend continues. Ultimately, we would like to see it grow to about 20 different vendors, a goal I truly think we can hit at the start of the next selling season.”

Murphy added, “The crafter’s fair is an added addition to the farmers market to help it expand and provide shoppers more options.”

“Those who plan on coming down to the market, please consider bringing your own bag for the items you purchase, and although some vendors will have credit card processing capability, most vendors accept cash only,” Murphy said. “Also please keep in mind to practice CDC guidelines for COVID-19.”

Murphy reminds shoppers that brick and mortar merchants of Philipsburg, “now more than ever need your help.

“When shopping local, your dollars that you spend stay local and help the community thrive,” Murphy said.
