Police Chase Ends in Patton Township, Car Flips on Roof Injuring Drug Suspects

A State College street looked like the scene of an action-adventure movie Thursday afternoon, but this was all too real, and too scary. A police chase ended with a frightening crash -- and the suspects' vehicle on its roof.

Pennsylvania State Police say it began when investigators were tipped off about a drug trafficking scheme. The suspects are identified as 37-year-old Stacy Henry of Philadelphia and 29-year-old Alicia Gardner of Bellefonte. The pair was allegedly buying heroin and bringing it to this area to sell it.

Here's how it went down according to a police report: state troopers with the Troop G Vice Unit had been following the suspects' car. When the car pulled into the Wal-Mart on North Atherton St., a Ferguson Twp. police officer  tried to make a stop. Henry, who was behind the wheel, hit the gas and sped away, racing up North Atherton St.

The car struck another vehicle pulling out from Colonnade Way. Police say Henry lost control, veered off the road, jumped the curb and careened over the sidewalk into the parking lot outside the Penn State Federal Credit Union. The car knocked down a traffic sign and flattened a lamp post before flipping on its roof, ejecting Gardner.

Both, Henry and Gardner were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. There is no word on their condition.

A fleet of police cars converged on the scene with officers from State College, Patton Twp. and Ferguson Twp. assisting the state police.

Fortunately, no one was walking on the sidewalk or in the parking lot at the time of the wreck.

Clean up crews kept busy removing debris and carting it away.

Police say a search of the suspects' car turned up 16 bags of heroin, some marijuana and $8,000 in cash.

Henry was reportedly already named on an active arrest warrant for possession with intent to deliver from a prior arrest in Centre County.

Gardner and Henry will be charged with numerous drug offenses. Henry will also be charged with several traffic offenses, including fleeing and eluding and recklessly endangering.

We have video from the scene of the accident:
