Ferguson Township police are warning residents to take precautions after a several car break-ins that occurred Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The break-ins took place in the neighborhoods along Blue Course Drive, Martin Street and West Cherry Lane.

Police say somebody stole cash, loose change and some valuables from locked and unlocked cars.

"When there are less students, we seem to have more crime," says one resident who asked not to be identified. "I think [the thieves] knew there were less people paying attention."

Another resident doesn't think there is any increase in crime over the summer.

"There's nothing that I've been aware of," says CY Welsh of State College. "But I used to live outside of Philly so maybe that's why. I always lock my car."

Police are asking residents in the area to check their vehicles for signs of entry. They are also reminding residents to lock their cars and to not leave anything valuable inside.

Anyone who might have information is asked to contact police at (800) 479-0050.
